The Power of Our Movement
Students have long been at the forefront of political and social change in so-called Canada. From campus protests to national advocacy campaigns, our collective voice has shaped policies, challenged injustices, and redefined democracy. With the upcoming federal election, we must remember our history, reclaim our power, and mobilize to create real change—because there is too much at stake.
A History of Student Mobilization & the Birth of a National Movement
In the 1980s, the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS) was formed to unite students across provinces and territories in the fight for accessible, affordable, and high-quality post-secondary education. This marked a turning point— for the first time, students had a national movement dedicated to collective action. Over the years, our mobilization has led to real political, social, and economic change at both federal and provincial levels, impacting students’ day-to-day lives.Together, we have fought and won critical victories. We have held governments accountable through protests, lobbying efforts, and electoral engagement, proving time and time again that when we organize, we win.
Returning to Our Roots
This election is monumental. Over the past year and a half, we have witnessed students mobilizing across the country, demanding that the government end its complicity in genocide—only to be ignored. But we will not be ignored at the polls.
Our movement has never been just about elections—it’s about holding those in power accountable. When students vote, we shift national conversations, force action on key issues, and build a future rooted in justice. Political parties know that student votes can decide election outcomes, and they will be watching us.
Now is the time to come together, organize, and make history once again. Your vote is your power—use it to build the future we deserve.
